Child neglect is one of the worst forms of child abuse because it exposes them to all forms of abuse such as sexual abuse, child trafficking, child sacrifice and also denies them access to basic needs to survival such as food, medical care, and shelter.Child neglect is common among children born of child mothers, poverty stricken families and also single parents. Neglect may include the failure to provide sufficient supervision, nourishment, or medical care, or the failure to fulfill other needs for which the victim cannot provide themselves.
By identifying circumstances which put parents or carers under stress, and getting them the right help at the right time, we can protect children from possible neglect.
Preventing child neglect will take action from everyone – parents, communities, universal services and government – working together to help children thrive.
